Workbook for Exploring The Sonic Cosmologies of Halim El-Dabh was Leo Asemota’s contribution to the exhibition projects: “Canine Wisdom for The Barking Dog: Exploring the Sonic Cosmologies of Halim El-Dabh” (Dakar Biennial 2018) and “Here history began: Tracing the Re/Verberations of Halim El-Dabh” (SAVVY Contemporary, Berlin 2021).

At the present time, Asemota’s Workbook comprise material including reading matter, newspaper clipping, works on paper, performances and libretto for musical works: ‘Halim El-Dabh Is Dead, Long Live Halim El-Dabh’ and ‘A Note To Halim El-Dabh’ as well as a light installation.

“A Note To Halim El-Dabh” was performed by Agathe Faye on the exhibition’s opening night in Dakar.  A vocalization adapted from Georges Delerue and Halim El-Dabh – ‘Here history began’ titled ‘Dakar Session: The Sphinx Recalls’, performed by Jonas Tinius and Kelvin Haizel, was presented at the Goethe-Institut, Point E, Dakar.
